Let's make picking-up your saxophone one of the highlights of your day - not one of your chores.
I believe making "Mistakes" is fundamental to the way we learn, so my focus is to help students understand that making mistakes is not only OK, it is an essential ingredient to accelerated learning.
I also believe the best way to learn/fix/improve is to break the problem down into small manageable chunks and build slowly.
I have discovered that careful choice of practice routines can result in more rapid improvement. Where possible I have used my experience to develop and adapt practice routines which combine 2 or 3 goals into one routine.
My goal is to help my students to love playing the saxophone to the point they want it to be part of their daily routine, as it has been part of mine for the past 50yrs.
I have long believed that regular feedback is essential for both teacher and student to get the most out the time we spend together. To that end I commit to providing a monthly summary.
I am a big fan of a goal-orientated approach to progress, so encourage students to work with me to set Monthly Goals which are challenging, but achievable. You don't learn anything by practicing something you can already do!
There is overwhelming evidence of the benefits that Music study provides with respect to exam grades, stress management, and overall mental health. I fully believe this, and aim to make study with me a valuable tool to help students cope with these pressures.
